My Canadian private (public to you) school had Jesuit Brothers. I was unscathed, but I had friends who were terribly treated. We were in grade 8. I’m 60 now. Our parents had no idea until we as group got our friend to tell our principal. A couple years ago his story was featured in a prominent article about what he suffered. They named the priest. I recognized the horrid details, but rather than using his own first name he used my first name. I didn’t mind, he got to speak about it and I hope it helped him. That was a weird day, not as weird as his of course, thankfully.
These schools are much the same everywhere. The downside is the mistreatment. The upside is leaving school more able to deal with it than kids who've been cared for in the way kids are meant to be cared for.
Good Afternoon Simon .. it was strange to catch up with you earlier at the checkout counter this afternoon... it would be great to catch up and share some stories, despite not having been to Charterhouse !@
I really don’t understand the attitude of the people in authority of these institutions who allowed small children to be terrorised and molested by these perverted and strange teachers. If I found anything like that was happening to my child I would sue the school into bankruptcy and hopefully destroy the public reputation of the individuals. But time and again it happened.
Usually the parents have been to public school too, so they know what it's all about. They always told us - it's good for you - and the awful thing is - yes, it probably is. But so is love and caring, which we sadly missed.
That is quite funny. Sounds fairly abusive treatment though which isn't
Fabulous stuff
Thanks Simon….always great stories
Wonderful, Simon ... makes me appreciate my 'city comprehensive' ... well almost ☺️
I will attempt to stay in your good books, just in case you decide to try again 🙏🏻
Really enjoyed reading, thank you 👏🏻
Thank you John

My mother often said what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger :)
I knew you were a public school brat 🙂
Moi? Not a brat, surely.
Glad he died!
Haha! I didn't care really - just so long as he buggered off and left me alone.
