More fantastic writing Simon! The monsters ball! New York. 1979. Doug Morris (is he still President of Sony Music?) signed me to Atco Records (part of WEA). I was 27. Bowie, Jimmy Iovine and Jim Steinman all offered to produce my Fresh Blood album, having heard the demos. I ended up doing it myself, at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall. I guess they were all too expensive. The album reached number 3 in the US airplay charts in its second week of release in 1980. Then nothing. No-one had noticed that it was the radio ratings period. You'll find it, still sounding fresh, on all the streaming platforms.
Love all your books - I worked at the agency that supplied the circus acts for the hilarious incident at the night club in You Don't Have to Say You Love Me
he’d developed an obsession with signing the Rolling Stones to Atlantic. It took him a while. First he waited until the group fired Alan Klein as their manager, then made himself the Stones’ best friend, partying, drinking, drugging and travelling with them. Finally, in 1971, he managed to sign them to Warner, giving them their own label.
Wonderful stories as always
Fabulous stuff. Keep it coming..
😄Fabulous ... "Walter Yetnikoff’s ambition lobe leapt right out of his trousers"

WEA - Warner Records, Elektra, Atlantic - all part of the Warner Group (Warner Communications) later merged with Time to become Time Warner.
