I was interested in reading more about Sinéad and then found she also put out a beautiful version of Chiquitita, by my other favourite band ABBA (the first being Wham!). Then my phone sent me down the rabbit hole of YouTube and I wnded up in a clip of George commenting on ABBA’s lyrics of The Day Before You Came. Upon which I wondered...would you know if he ever covered an ABBA song, or how he valued their music?

Thanks for sharing this perspective with us Simon. She was a very tormented person which made her performances so deeply involving. She really got to personify and awaken the deepest emotions within ourselves.

Beautiful Simon....Loved the book......Regarding Sinead, I think you would agree that it is hard to find truly unique artists that don't have and carry with them a few lifetimes of tragedy and sadness. Being a fellow talent wrangler (and you can write me directly the response for privacy) I would love to know what were the reasons for the contract litigation at the end and how were they resolved?

What a powerful and honest account. I never got into her - she was too self-reverential and I hate the misogyny and homophobia of Islam. But once one understands the trauma one can start to understand the behaviour. Thank you Simon.

Thank you for that, so much richness in that book, I had not remembered that part.

Wow. A very heartfelt and honest tribute to Sinead, a truly great artist, Simon. Your writing is fantastic - it reminds me of Truman Capote. Now here's a thing. In the early 80s I had a passionate and intense relationship with a beautiful, young, black (mixed-race) Irish guy called Kevin Sharkey. He became quite famous in Ireland in the Naughties, having made a memorable appearance on the Gabriel Byrne show, talking about finding his mother. He became a successful painter and had his own gallery. He also had a love relationship with Sinead, for about four years, I believe. He told me that she used to see a therapist every single day. Check out the world's first multimedia book (a novel - or autoblogography - with songs) 'by' my alter-ego Thom Topham. https://thomtopham.wordpress.com/about

RIP Sinéad O’Connor. A Troubled Soul. Damaged by The Catholic Church. Now united with her beloved son Shane. My heart ❤️ goes out to her three surviving children and her grandchild. Another example of someone too fragile for the steamroller of the 'Music Biz'.

Lovely read 👍🎶

How very tragic but another fascinating and candid insight of a very toxic biz and the victims thereof. But more tragic is the reasons for the dysfunctional talents who enter into it. RIP Sinead 🥲
